Ben Frey received a diploma in Illustration and Applied Arts at Capilano University’s IDEA School of Design, and completed RED Academy’s UI Design program.

Frey specializes in illustration but also focuses on web & product design as well as branding projects. His work has been published in the Globe and Mail, Walrus Magazine, and Discorder plus three illustrated children’s books for Annick Press and Simply Read Books. Ben has been a contributor to SFU, BC NDP, PHS Community Services Society, Vancouver Mural Festival, and Sitka Surfboards (aka Ecologist). He has been featured by Leafly, Vice, Lodown Magazine and NO Magazine.

Although Frey mostly works in commercial art, he has created a body of work in drawing and has exhibited solo shows at Okazi Gallery (Berlin, DE), Revolver Upstairs (Melbourne, AU), Antisocial (Vancouver, BC), Bob Prittie Library (Burnaby, BC), Good Luck Gallery (Vancouver, BC), Electric Umbrella (Nanaimo, BC), Sitka (Victoria, BC) and group shows at Vancouver Mural Fest (Vancouver, BC), The Cheaper Show (Vancouver, BC) and Studio Nine Gallery (Toronto, ON). Frey will be exhibiting a new body of work at Slice Gallery (Vancouver, BC) in 2023.

Currently, Ben balances his time as an Illustration Instructor for Capilano’s IDEA School of Design, Senior Designer at AvenueHQ, and screen printing his own work at his home studio. Frey resides with his wife and two sons on Salt Spring Island, BC.
